Progesterone

Progesterone is the hormone of pregnancy, critical in maintaining pregnancy (Pro-gestation). It has other benefits other than maintaining a pregnancy, such as mental calming effects, fluid management in the body and anticancer properties in the uterus. The mental effects are important in sleep and moderating PMS symptoms. Management of bleeding and prevention of malignancy is paramount in women that have a uterus. Uncontrolled bleeding can occur if progesterone is not given in a set protocol in hormone management. Unopposed estrogen treatment can put one at risk for developing a uterine cancer unless progesterone is added to the protocol. The mental benefits of Progesterone can be attained even with women that have had a hysterectomy. It is a very important hormone in the management of HRT.
